Call To Action
Parent Partnership

Learning

Nurturing Roots Parent Academy is excited to announce a new initiative designed to intentionally bridge the divide between parents and educators, building on the success of our first "Crawfish Community and Conversations" event. This initiative encourages educators to work with their school administrations to create more opportunities for parental involvement and invites schools to include parents in professional development sessions and school planning meetings.

The Impact

Enhanced Learning Environments:

When parents and educators collaborate, they create a supportive educational environment that enhances student learning. This cooperation allows for a consistent support system for students, both at home and in school, which can significantly improve academic performance.

Improved School Climate:

Parental involvement can lead to a more positive and inclusive school climate. Schools that encourage parent participation often experience a sense of community and mutual respect among students, parents, and staff, which can enhance the overall school environment.

Enhanced Parental Skills:

Through their involvement in educational settings, parents can acquire new skills and knowledge that can help them support their children’s learning at home more effectively. Educational workshops, teacher interactions, and involvement in school decision-making processes can empower parents with the tools they need to aid their children's education.

Reduction in Youth Crime and Incarceration Rates:

Active parental involvement has been shown to reduce delinquent behavior among youth. By engaging more with their children’s education, parents provide the stability and guidance necessary for young people to make positive choices.

All stakeholders are encouraged to join in this endeavor to positively impact the lives of our children and the broader community. Click here for a draft letter to send to your administrator, parents and all educator stakeholders!

Holding Hands

The Parent Academy will organize a series of community symposiums aimed at addressing the school-to-prison pipeline. These symposiums, specifically targeting parents, guardians, and educators from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, are meticulously crafted to provide comprehensive knowledge and skills. Our objective is to augment parenting capabilities through culturally informed practices that respect and incorporate the distinct experiences and perspectives of families. These symposiums, led by experts in their respective fields, seek to confront and mitigate the school-to-prison pipeline, bridge educational disparities, encourage positive home environments, and enhance overall family well-being within the communities of Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Our goal is to create a cohesive community of parents and educators united in their efforts to harness our collective strength and ensure our voices are heard within the school system. This unity is crucial for healing our communities and protecting our children from becoming casualties of systemic injustices.

The symposiums in New Orleans and Baton Rouge are specifically designed to meet the unique needs of our community. Each session is carefully crafted to empower parents and guardians, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively support their children’s educational and personal development.
