Empowering Parent-Teacher Partnership: Organizing Parent-Teacher Organizations within Schools
This symposium aims to bring together parents, teachers, and school administrators to discuss and learn about the benefits of having a parent-teacher organization (PTO) within their respective schools. Through informative sessions, interactive workshops, and panel discussions, attendees will gain insights into the best practices for organizing a PTO, ways to encourage parental involvement in school activities, and strategies for building a stronger parent-teacher partnership. The symposium will provide a platform for participants to exchange ideas, share experiences, and network with other like-minded individuals who are passionate about improving the quality of education for our children.
Trauma Informed Parenting
The Trauma-Informed Parenting Symposium is a two-hour session designed for parents who are interested in learning about the impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on children. The symposium aims to provide parents with a comprehensive understanding of how traumatic experiences affect a child's behavior, emotions, and relationships. Through interactive discussions and informative presentations, parents will learn how to recognize the signs of trauma in their children and how to respond with empathy and understanding. This symposium is an excellent opportunity for parents to gain practical tools and techniques to foster a safe and supportive environment for their children and help them grow into healthy and resilient adults.
Empowering Parents in IEP and 504 Plan Processes
This session is designed to provide parents with a comprehensive understanding of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504 Plan processes. Hosted by the Nurturing Roots Parent Academy, this session aims to empower parents to advocate for their children's educational rights effectively. The session will focus on destigmatizing the idea of "gifted" students and encouraging parents to seek support for their children's unique learning needs. Parents will learn about their rights and responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
